Create Clear Goals, Roles, & Norms for Optimal Team Dynamics

A Team Agreement Framework, commonly known as a “team charter,” is a co-created document that outlines the purpose, goals, roles, responsibilities, and norms of a team. It serves as a roadmap for the group, providing clarity and alignment on objectives and expectations.

A well-crafted and mutually agreed upon team charter helps to establish a shared understanding among team members, enhances communication, fosters accountability, and promotes teamwork. It typically includes information such as the team’s mission or objectives, scope of work, timeline, decision-making processes, and guidelines for resolving conflicts.

Accountability and Ownership
By defining expectations and deadlines, a team charter encourages accountability and empowers team members to take ownership of their tasks and contributions.

Team Alignment Framework Meeting Logistics

Use the following checklist to plan for a Team Alignment Framework conversation.

Schedule a meeting with your team to create your team charter. Chartering conversations typically take 60–90 minutes.
Book the necessary conference rooms for team members who will be joining from the office.
Ensure IT resources are available to support participants.
Distribute the team chartering document to all team members 2–3 days in advance of the meeting so they have time to review the question set and consider their responses. If pressed for time, consider having team members fill in the charter in advance of the meeting.
Assign a dedicated person to capture responses and decisions during the meeting.
